Being in another country and seeing how business is conducted has really opened my eyes. It has shown me that business is not done the same everywhere. For instance, in a country like Argentina, there is a lot of emphasis on building relationships with your clients. Argentine people will typically sacrifice hours a day to ensure that client at hand receives their best interest. This is quite different than in the U.S where we will only devote so much time to a particular client. A lot of people in the U.S. could really care less about client’s family and personal life. We are generally only concerned with the “business” aspect.
I plan on being an accountant when I graduate. This trip has shown me that when doing business abroad, you need to learn about the country’s culture and how they conduct business. Many countries have their own traditions and customs and failing to follow these can result in lost business.
